Zakir Jalali: Prisoner release can facilitate expansion of Afghanistan-U.S. relations

KABUL: Zakir Jalali, the third deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that the release of an American citizen from prison in Kabul could pave the way for expanding relations between Afghanistan and the United States in other areas.
In a message on his X, Jalali emphasized that understanding the realities and sensitivities of both parties could assist in the next stages of interaction between Kabul and Washington.
He noted that high-level meetings and the release of prisoners in the bilateral relationship could create an environment based on mutual respect and common interests, thereby opening pathways for cooperation in other sectors.
Jalali further highlighted the importance of addressing the prisoner issue appropriately, which, according to him, would facilitate ongoing discussions between Afghan and U.S. officials in other domains.
It is worth mentioning that the release of Amir Amiri, an American of Afghan descent, has also garnered positive reactions among senior U.S. politicians.
