KABUL: The global maritime caravan known as “Sumood,” consisting of 45 ships carrying aid, is en route to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip.
According to AFP, the caravan has reached near the shores of Gaza.
This caravan, which includes not only aid but also politicians and activists such as Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg, has vowed to reach Gaza without stopping, despite objections from the Israeli navy.
The report states that Israeli naval forces, after warning against the caravan entering its waters, have detained part of it.
However, Greta Thunberg continues to move towards Gaza with 30 ships.
The caravan stated on X that “30 ships are still on their way to Gaza, only 46 nautical miles remaining, despite repeated aggressions from the occupying Israeli navy.”
Saif Aboukashk, spokesperson for the “Sumood” caravan, noted that Israeli forces have stopped 13 ships with approximately 200 passengers, mostly from Spain and Italy.
According to caravan officials, the detention of some of their companions by Israel is illegal, as they were traveling in international waters towards Gaza.
The caravan is expected to break the food blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has been imposed by Israel for months.
The maritime caravan “Sumood” includes delegations from 44 countries across six continents and departed Spain for Gaza about a month ago.
