Pakistan proposes to the U.S. to build a port in Balochistan, across the Arabian Sea

KABUL: Advisors to General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, have suggested that the United States construct a port in Balochistan to facilitate Washington’s access to the country’s mineral resources.

According to The Financial Times, a prominent global economic publication, the proposed port would be located in the “Pasni” area of Balochistan, with an investment of $1.2 billion in this strategic region along the Arabian Sea. The plan also includes the construction of a railway line from the port to the relevant mines.

The report indicates that if this proposal is realized, it would provide the U.S. with access to the strategic Arabian Sea region.

The port is reportedly intended to enable the U.S. to utilize Pakistan’s copper and antimony resources, with funding for its construction coming from both Pakistani government sources and developmental assistance from Washington.

The advisors emphasized that this port would not be used as a military base or destination for the deployment of military forces.

Pasni is a coastal city in Balochistan, located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, within the Gwadar district. It is situated 110 kilometers east of the Gwadar port and 160 kilometers west of the Iran-Pakistan border and the Chabahar port.
