KABUL: Senior Venezuelan officials have confirmed that a plot to bomb the U.S. Embassy in the country has been thwarted.
According to a report from Agence France-Presse (AFP), President Nicolás Maduro announced the foiling of this plan during his weekly television address today, where he stated that the bombing was to be carried out as part of an operation dubbed “false flag” by “local terrorists,” but it was neutralized before execution.
The President added that the perpetrators aimed to escalate the ongoing tensions between Caracas and Washington.
He emphasized that the embassy remains protected despite the numerous conflicts with the U.S. government.
Based on information released by Maduro, and according to two unnamed officials, the plotters intended to plant explosives within the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela.
The report also noted that Venezuelan authorities had previously received information and warnings about a “serious threat” to the embassy from Washington.
This comes amid unprecedented tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela in recent weeks.
