KABUL: At least 38 people have lost their lives in an explosion of an oil tanker in Nigeria.
Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on Tuesday night, that the explosion occurred in a village called “Aza” in southern Nigeria after an oil tanker overturned on one of the dilapidated roads in Niger State.
Witnesses stated that after the tanker overturned, its oil spilled out, and an explosion occurred when people gathered to collect the spilled oil.
Hajiya Aisha Saidu, a local official from the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria, confirmed the incident.
Saidu mentioned that rescue operations are still ongoing at the site. This tragic event has caused severe traffic congestion on the busy highway, particularly due to the poor condition of the road.
Explosions involving oil tankers are not uncommon in Nigeria.
Reports indicate that the primary cause of such tanker explosions in the country is the excessive deterioration of road conditions.
