Uzbekistan’s 220 kV power line cut; Power outages increase in Kabul and other provinces

KABUL: According to the officials of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the 220 kV power transmission line from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan has been cut over the Amu River.

Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, the Executive Director of Breshna, stated on his X on Tuesday night, that the interruption of this line has led to increased power outages in Kabul, the capital, and several other provinces.

He added that work is ongoing to restore the line as quickly as possible. However, he emphasized that rising water levels in the Amu River have necessitated cautious operations for the reconnection.

The senior official assured that the issue will be resolved soon.

It remains unclear which provinces, in addition to Kabul, are experiencing power outages due to the cut in the imported electricity line from Uzbekistan.

It is worth noting that the 220 kV line from Uzbekistan was extended to meet the energy needs of the country’s citizens and industrial companies.
