Israeli Parliament votes in favor of West Bank annexation plan despite opposition

KABUL: Lawmakers of the Israeli occupying regime have voted in favor of a plan to annex the West Bank, despite internal and international opposition, in an initial step of a four-phase process.

Al Jazeera reported this decision from the Knesset (Israeli parliament) on Wednesday night, that the members of the Israeli parliament voted 25 in favor and 24 against the annexation plan, despite opposition from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party.

This decision is interpreted as a formal annexation of Palestinian territories into Israel, constituting a clear violation of international law.

The Likud party has stated that the parliamentary decision will seriously damage relations between Tel Aviv and Washington.

The Israeli parliament voted on this plan simultaneously with the visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Tel Aviv.

Notably, about a month ago, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to prevent the annexation of the West Bank under the Israeli regime.

However, while the current decision is seen as an initial action, its realization would effectively destroy the two-state solution between the Israeli regime and Palestine, which was recently endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly.
