KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he has canceled a planned meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
He made the remarks to reporters on Wednesday night, while speaking alongside Mark Rutte, the Secretary-General of NATO, at the White House.
He stated that he canceled the meeting because he did not have a good feeling about it. “I didn’t feel that we could reach a necessary conclusion, so I canceled it, but we will meet in the future,” he said.
Last week, Trump announced that he was set to meet with Putin soon in Budapest following a relatively lengthy phone conversation with the Russian president.
While reputable sources from the White House reported yesterday that the meeting between the leaders of the White House and the Kremlin has been postponed indefinitely, Moscow emphasized that preparations for the meeting were still underway.
The Trump-Putin meeting, aside from the complexities surrounding U.S.-Russia relations, aims to address the ongoing war in Ukraine.
