KABUL: Reliable sources told Radio Omid that recent discussions between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Istanbul, Turkey ended today without any tangible results.
According to the sources, the Pakistani delegation exhibited uncontrollable and sometimes disrespectful behavior, surprising both the mediators and the Afghan team.
The main topics of discussion included controlling armed groups, reviewing past airstrikes, and preventing attacks from both sides’ territories. However, both parties failed to reach an agreement on many points, and the talks are currently stalled.
Informed sources from the Afghanistan-Pakistan discussions in Istanbul added that the Pakistani delegation initially agreed to terms but later retreated from their commitments following external contacts and interventions, making inaccurate statements.
The Pakistani delegation reportedly claimed they could not prevent U.S. drone activities over Afghanistan and could not guarantee full control over groups like ISIS.
Meanwhile, the Afghan team assured the other side that no one would be allowed to use Afghan territory against Pakistan.
Sources also indicated that during the Istanbul talks, the Pakistani delegation exhibited “rude and irresponsible” behavior, which surprised representatives of the mediating countries.
The head of the Pakistani delegation reportedly made harsh and insulting remarks towards the Afghan side, disrupting the dialogue atmosphere.
Representatives from Qatar and Turkey expressed their dissatisfaction with the Pakistani delegation’s conduct, noting that the Afghan team displayed exemplary patience and composure.
This comes as the second round of ceasefire talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been ongoing in Turkey for the past three days.
