Afghan and Indian Foreign Ministers discuss Earthquake relief; Delhi’s aid en route to Kabul

KABUL: India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, held a phone conversation with his Afghan counterpart, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, regarding earthquake relief efforts.

In a post on his X account late on Monday evening, Jaishankar said the primary focus of the conversation was the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Balkh, Samangan, and Baghlan provinces the previous night.

He extended his condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people to the people of Afghanistan.

The Indian Foreign Minister confirmed that relief supplies from India for the earthquake victims are already en route from Delhi to Kabul.

He further added that an additional shipment of medical aid will soon be dispatched to Kabul.

Jaishankar noted: “We also discussed progress in bilateral relations following my visit and welcomed the strengthening of people-to-people contacts between India and Afghanistan.”

It is worth mentioning that India is the first country to send relief supplies to Afghanistan in the wake of the earthquake that struck several northern provinces.
