KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with a number of Afghan traders and industrialists today, here in Kabul.
During the meeting, Mullah Baradar Akhund urged all countries to refrain from politicizing trade with Afghanistan. He stated, “Afghanistan has now moved beyond a situation where sanctions or border closures led to increased prices for goods, as the country currently has multiple alternative trade routes.”
He urged all traders to remove their assets and goods from Pakistan and find alternative routes for their commerce.
Additionally, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund ordered the Ministry of Finance not to allow imports of goods coming from Pakistan.
The remarks come at a time when trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been suspended for about a month.
Currently, members of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment indicate that thousands of containers carrying Afghan traders’ goods are stuck in Pakistan.
