OIC supports ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan

KABUL: Tarig Ali Bakheet, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the organization’s special representative in Afghanistan, stated during a meeting with Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi that the OIC supports the establishment of a ceasefire between Kabul and Islamabad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on Thursday, said the discussions covered issues such as the political and security situation, the return of refugees, the fight against narcotics, regional developments, and bilateral cooperation.

The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the OIC’s assistance to returning refugees and victims of the recent earthquake in the country, urging for increased collaboration in light of the upcoming winter season.

Additionally, Tarig Ali Bakheet promised humanitarian assistance from the organization for returning refugees.

It’s worth noting that, despite inconclusive talks between Afghan and Pakistani delegations in Istanbul, Turkey, a ceasefire still holds between the two countries.

Various nations around the world have called on Kabul and Islamabad to maintain the ceasefire.
