KABUL: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has recently stated that he is seeking damages $1 to $5 billion in his legal dispute with the BBC.
The Telegraph, a British newspaper, reported today that the U.S. President emphasized during a conversation with reporters on Air Force One (Friday night) that his lawsuit against the BBC is likely to begin next week.
He stated, “We are suing them. We are seeking between $1 billion to $5 billion… probably next week.”
The Telegraph reporter, who was present during Trump’s remarks on the plane, added that the U.S. President thanked the newspaper for providing leads that contributed to his legal case and noted that the Telegraph has done an outstanding job.
Donald Trump, who has reignited a battle against critical media since his return to the White House, is suing the BBC over what he claims is a distortion of his speech during the “Panorama” program on January 5 of this year (2025).
His latest remarks regarding the lawsuit came a day after the BBC announced the resignations of its Director-General and Head of News and apologized for retracting its program involving Trump.
Previously, Trump filed a similar lawsuit against the New York Times, seeking $15 billion in damages.
