Over 150 tons of smuggled goods seized in country’s ports over past two weeks

KABUL: The Ministry of Finance said in a statement today that as a result of monitoring activities by employees of the General Customs Directorate, 151.7 tons of goods intended for smuggling into the country were seized in the past two weeks.
According to the statement, the goods were seized in the provinces of Herat, Kandahar, Nimroz, Farah, and Helmand, where smugglers attempted to bring them into the country without paying customs duties.
The statement added that the seized items included fruits, vegetables, medicinal herbs, confectionery, textiles, poultry, plastic items, food products, clothing, cleaning supplies, sports equipment, fish, and auto parts.
While the Ministry of Finance reported the arrest of several individuals on charges of smuggling these goods, it did not provide details on the number or identities of those arrested.
This comes as both civil and military sectors continue their tireless efforts to prevent the entry and exit of smuggled goods in the country.
