KABUL: The tenth Saffron Festival was held in Herat province, attended by officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, Emirati officials, traders, and farmers.
Speaking at the festival, Mawlavi Sardar Azimi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, stated that saffron fields in the country have increased to 12,000 hectares this year.
He noted that 41 tons of saffron have been harvested from these fields this year, and the ministry remains committed to supporting saffron farmers in the country.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Adil, head of the Afghan Saffron Farmers Union, mentioned that 72 companies have been established in the saffron sector, and the process of exporting saffron outside of Afghanistan is ongoing.
He expressed the union’s intention to invest $10 million in saffron cultivation, aiming to create 80,000 job opportunities. He also called for December 1st to be designated as “National Saffron Day.”
The tenth Saffron Festival takes place as this agricultural product continues to hold the title of the world’s finest saffron.
