KABUL: The United States is gearing up to initiate a new phase of operations in Venezuela. Four American officials have confirmed this news, stating that the operational phase is expected to begin in the coming days.
Two other sources emphasized to Reuters that the efforts to undermine or overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government are among Washington’s potential objectives.
Details regarding the precise timing and scope of the operations remain unclear, and it is also uncertain whether President Donald Trump has finalized any decisions on the matter.
Concerns have risen regarding military or security measures due to the recent deployment of U.S. forces in the Caribbean and the deterioration of Washington-Caracas relations.
American officials state that these potential covert operations will be the first step in this process. Washington alleges that Maduro plays a role in drug trafficking networks, which they claim endangers the lives of American citizens.
However, Maduro has dismissed these allegations, insisting that the Trump administration is attempting to remove him from power.
He has threatened that the Venezuelan people and military will firmly resist any foreign interventions.
