Fazl-ur-Rehman: Pakistan’s policy on Afghanistan has been a failure for 45 years

KABUL: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has once again criticized Pakistan’s policy concerning Afghanistan.

Fazl-ur-Rehman made the remarks during a meeting with several prominent Pakistani businessmen who had gathered to discuss the resumption of trade with Afghanistan. He described Pakistan’s current approach toward Afghanistan as “destructive” and asserted that this policy has proven to be a failure for the past 45 years.

He claimed that Pakistan gained financial benefits at the expense of Afghans during the regimes of Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf.

Fazl-ur-Rehman insisted that a new and realistic policy is needed based on trust, stability, and constructive engagement between the two neighboring countries.
