KABUL: Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan citizen who shot at two members of the National Guard, is suffering from severe psychological problems and long-term isolation, American media reported on Monday.
Fox News reported today based on the examination of some of Lakanwal’s emails.
Notable issues he faces include deteriorating mental health, instability, irregular work habits, prolonged isolation, and unusual travels across the United States.
The Associated Press, which conducted investigations into Lakanwal’s emails, noted that warnings about his situation had been issued to relevant agencies some time ago.
One such warning came about a year ago from a social activist working with Afghan families in the U.S., expressing concerns about Lakanwal’s suicidal tendencies via email to a refugee organization.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan who has worked with American forces during their presence in Afghanistan, opened fire on two National Guard members near the White House last week.
In this attack, one person was killed and another was severely injured.
