Venezuelan President: We do not want “slave-like peace” from the U.S.

KABUL: Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela, stated at a gathering that his country seeks peace “with sovereignty, equality, and freedom,” rather than what he describes as “slave-like peace.”

Al Jazeera reported today, he made the remarks during a public rally in Caracas.

In another address at a meeting in front of the Presidential Palace, he affirmed his unwavering loyalty to the legacy of Hugo Chávez, defending the sovereignty of Venezuela and its people.

He stated: “We want peace, but peace with sovereignty, equality, and freedom. We do not want slave-like or colonial peace.”

Maduro emphasized that he has not been involved in any criminal activities.

In parts of the report, he addressed his people, asserting: “Be assured that just as I swore allegiance to our commander Chávez, I swear to you absolute loyalty as long as we can live this beautiful and heroic history.”

This senior Venezuelan official’s speech comes amid reports that Donald Trump, the U.S. President, is considering military action against Venezuela.

On Monday night, he held discussions with his security cabinet regarding the latest developments in the Caribbean Sea region.
