KABUL: New Delhi has urged the international community to focus on pragmatic engagement with Afghanistan and to refrain from imposing unilateral pressure on Kabul.
Parvati Harish, India’s representative to the United Nations, made the remarks during a Security Council meeting on Wednesday night, addressing the situation in Afghanistan.
According to him, encouraging positive activities and approaches can lead to change, while punitive measures only result in political deadlocks and destroy constructive options.
He added that India’s enhancement of diplomatic relations with Afghanistan is part of the country’s policy for responsible engagement with Kabul.
This diplomatic shift between Kabul and New Delhi is aimed at supporting Afghanistan’s developmental needs.
In recent months, political and business relations between India and Afghanistan have seen significant expansion, a trend not seen in the past four years.
Afghanistan’s Foreign and Industry ministers have been welcomed by Indian officials during their visits to New Delhi.
