Attempt to smuggle over 5,000 sheep to Pakistan prevented

KANDAHAR: The provincial official of the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Department in Kandahar said that, with the joint efforts of local agricultural and livestock authorities in Spin Boldak and security agencies, attempts to smuggle thousands of sheep to Pakistan have been thwarted over the past three months.
In a statement, the department announced that it successfully prevented the illegal smuggling and transfer of 5,198 sheep to Pakistan during this period.
Local officials indicated that some individuals attempted to transport these sheep illegally across the Durand Line from Spin Boldak to Pakistan.
While the statement states that dozens of people have been arrested in connection with this case, it does not provide the exact number or the identities of those arrested.
According to the statement, those arrested have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Officials added that among the seized sheep, 1,304 were confiscated in the month of Meezan, 370 in the month of Aqrab, and 3,524 in the month of Qaws.
This comes as local officials, both civilian and military, have been making round-the-clock efforts to prevent any illegal smuggling of goods across the Durand Line.
In the past 10 days, 238 vehicles carrying smuggled goods have also been seized in the Bahramacha district of Helmand province.
