KABUL: Russian media have reported that Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated the country is interested in constructing a railway through Afghanistan, and discussions have commenced regarding this project.
Overchuk emphasized the importance of establishing additional connections to southern countries, noting that such developments would positively impact Russia’s economic and commercial interests, particularly in the transportation sector.
He highlighted that a railway passing through Afghanistan could further connect Russia with southern regions and create new strategic grounds for regional connectivity.
This statement comes following earlier news from Jabbar Ali Zakeri, the executive director of Iran’s railway authority, who mentioned that their agenda includes a new strategic railway plan to connect Iran with China through Afghanistan.
