Hungarian Prime Minister: 2025 could be last year of peace in European Union

KABUL: Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has stated that 2025 could be the last year of peace in the European Union since World War II (in the past 80 years).

Orbán made the remarks in an interview with the newspaper Magyar Nemzet, which is closely aligned with the Hungarian government.

He highlighted the military and economic developments among countries and suggested that, considering the situation surrounding the Ukraine conflict, war between Russia and the European Union could be likely in 2026.

He referred to the allocation of €90 billion by the EU to Ukraine, indicating that the Union is currently divided into two camps.

According to Orbán: “Today, there are two camps in Europe: the war supporters and the peace advocates. Currently, the pro-war forces are dominant. Brussels wants war; Hungary wants peace.”

The statements come in the context of previous comments by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stated that Russia does not seek war with Europe but is not afraid of it if necessary.

Additionally, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, recently mentioned that the EU will support Ukraine against Russia for as long as Ukraine wishes.
