“Iran faces serious and critical water crisis,” says governor

KABUL: Tehran’s governor, Mohammad Sadiq Motamedian, stated that Iran is currently facing a serious and critical water situation, with mismanagement leading to a dangerous decline in groundwater levels.

He warned that if the current circumstances persist, the country’s officials may need to seriously consider relocating the capital.

The governor mentioned that residents of Tehran consume nearly twice as much water compared to citizens in other Iranian cities, exacerbating the water crisis.

Motamedian emphasized that focusing solely on water transfer projects is not a permanent solution. Instead, it is crucial to pay attention to proper water management, conservation, and effective strategies.

He noted that controlling water consumption levels and preserving natural resources could play a significant role in addressing Iran’s ongoing water crisis.
