Future history of New York to be written in Pashto, drawing global Pashtun support

KABUL: A number of Pashtuns residing in various countries around the world have welcomed and praised the statements of Zahran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City, USA.
In his inauguration speech, Mr. Mamdani announced that the history and narrative of New York City would be written not only in other languages but also in Pashto.
His remarks have sparked widespread enthusiasm among Pashtuns globally, emphasizing that this action represents a recognition and respect for cultural, social, and linguistic diversity in New York.
Pashto, which is one of the national languages of Afghanistan, is also widely spoken in Pakistan, with millions of speakers. For Pashtuns, Pashto is not merely a means of communication but is deeply intertwined with their cultural identity.
Zahran Mamdani, a Muslim mayor of New York City, officially began his duties yesterday (Friday) after a spirited oath of loyalty.
