KABUL: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that the reconstruction of 165 schools is currently underway in nine provinces of Afghanistan.
The organization stated that upon completion of the reconstruction work, better educational opportunities will be provided for thousands of children across these nine provinces.
According to the statement, the reconstruction of these schools is being supported by the government of Japan in collaboration with its embassy in Kabul.
One of the schools mentioned is the Tawakkul Baba High School located in Nangarhar province.
The statement did not disclose the total cost of the project.
This comes as the Ministry of Education has also recently reported plans to construct hundreds of schools this year and to reconstruct hundreds more throughout the country.
