KABUL: After three years of devastating and bloody conflict between Sudanese army forces and the paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), government officials have announced the return of the government to the capital city, Khartoum.
In a press conference, Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris announced the government’s return to the war-torn capital, according to the Al Jazeera news network.
He stated that with the return of the government in Khartoum, the process of providing services to Sudanese citizens will commence. Idris emphasized, “The government of hope has returned to the national capital.”
He stated: “We provide better services, including better healthcare, reconstruction of hospitals, the development of educational services, as well as enhancements in electricity, water supply, and public health services.”
Nearly three years ago, amid escalating clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF, the army-loyal government fled from Khartoum, allowing the capital to fall into the hands of the paramilitary forces.
Khartoum comprises three cities: Khartoum, Omdurman, and Khartoum North.
The gradual return of the Sudanese government began after Khartoum was taken by the army in March 2025.
