Indonesia holds secret talks on buying fighter jets and drones from Pakistan

KABUL: International media reports indicate that senior officials from the Indonesian military have begun secret negotiations to purchase weapons, including combat aircraft and drones made in Pakistan.
Reuters, citing three unnamed sources, reported on Monday evening, that Indonesia’s defense minister met with the commander of the Pakistan Air Force in Islamabad to discuss a potential deal for the aforementioned weapons.
Sources have indicated that the discussions aim to procure the multi-role JF-17 aircraft, a joint production of China and Pakistan, along with drones designed for surveillance and targeting.
The report noted that the defense ministries of Indonesia and Pakistan have confirmed the meeting of senior military officials from both countries. However, a spokesperson for Indonesia’s defense ministry emphasized that talks with Pakistani officials have not yet yielded results.
Meanwhile, the market for Pakistani-made weapons has become increasingly active, with recent discussions surrounding potential agreements for purchasing fighter jets and drones by countries such as Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, and Indonesia over the past month.
