KABUL: In an interview with CBS News, published on Tuesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed that his ultimate goal regarding Iran is a victory similar to that in Venezuela.
When asked about the nature of this victory, Trump referred to a list of U.S. operations, including the arrest of Venezuela’s president, last year’s attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, and the targeted killings of Qassem Soleimani and the former ISIS leader.
Trump noted that no one has been able to provide him with accurate figures regarding protester deaths in Iran, suggesting that the numbers could be significant, which would pose many challenges for the Iranian government.
Regarding the potential execution of detained protesters, he stated, “We do not want what is happening in Iran to continue. If they want to protest, that’s one thing; but when they start killing thousands of people and now talk of executions, we will see how that ends for them. This will not be in their benefit.”
The president emphasized that if the executions of detained protesters occur, Washington’s actions against Tehran would be “much more severe.”
Reports indicate that the next 24 hours will be critical for Trump’s warnings regarding Iran.
It remains unclear what form U.S. intervention concerning the recent bloody protests in Iran will take, which the Iranian government has labeled as “riots.”
