KABUL: The U.S. State Department has announced an intensified crackdown on immigration under the Trump administration, stating that the visa issuance process for citizens of 75 countries will be halted within six days, according to Reuters on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson announced that this decision affects citizens from countries including Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay, as well as Balkan nations like Bosnia and Albania, South Asian countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh, and many African, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean nations.
Additionally, the report noted that citizens from Russia and Afghanistan are also included in this new measure.
Tommy Pigott, senior deputy spokesperson for the State Department, stated that the processing of immigration visas will be suspended for these 75 countries while the Department re-evaluates immigration procedures to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who may benefit from welfare and public benefits.
Throughout the year of Trump’s administration, U.S. immigration processes have prominently featured a crackdown on migrants, a policy that has sparked concern among other countries and protests from citizens within the U.S.
