KABUL: The White House has announced the composition of the “Gaza Peace Delegation,” stating that Donald Trump will serve as the head of the “Gaza Peace Council,” with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair appointed to the delegation.
Al Jazeera reported on Friday night, that this body will oversee Trump’s 20-point plan for ending the conflict in Gaza.
According to the statement from the White House, alongside Blair, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law; Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State; and Steve Witkoff, the President’s special envoy for Middle Eastern affairs, have also been selected as executive members of this newly founded committee.
Additional members include the CEO of Apollo Global Management, the head of the World Bank, and the Deputy National Security Advisor of the U.S.
The delegation is expected to oversee a specific set of vital matters, including “empowering governance, regional relations, reconstruction, attracting investment, securing large-scale financial resources, and mobilizing capital” to ensure long-term stability and success in Gaza.
Additionally, Nikolay Mladenov, a Bulgarian diplomat and former senior UN official, has been appointed as the Special Representative for Gaza, while Major General Jasper Jeffers of the U.S. Army has been assigned as Commander of the “International Stability Force for Gaza.”
The White House statement regarding the “Executive Committee” aimed at supporting governance in Gaza includes Blair, Kushner, Witkoff, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi, and several others.
So far, Hamas has not reacted to the establishment announced by the White House regarding the “Gaza Peace Council.”
This initiative appears to be aimed at implementing the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip based on Trump’s 20-point plan.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also called for the full implementation of this second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza.
