Technical Meeting of OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan held in Jeddah

KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said in a statement on Saturday that a technical meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding the situation in Afghanistan was held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to the statement, the Qatari delegation described the meeting as taking place at a critical juncture and emphasized the need for a “collective and balanced” approach to the situation in Afghanistan.
This approach is believed by Doha to involve an immediate response to the needs for “humanitarian assistance, responsible political engagement, respect for Afghanistan’s specific conditions, and support for the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development.”
The statement further noted, “From Qatar’s perspective, this meeting presents an important opportunity for exchanging technical assessments, coordinating efforts, and formulating practical proposals that will enhance the OIC contact group’s ability to take effective and coordinated action.”
The technical meeting of the OIC contact group was held to coordinate the organization’s actions regarding Afghanistan, which included the contact group’s visit to Kabul, aligning members’ views on how to engage with Afghanistan, and emphasizing joint and coordinated actions on various topics.
