KABUL: As a result of joint efforts by security forces and local residents, 17 miners have been rescued from a chromite mine in Paktia province.
The media offices of the Paktia police command said in a statement on Friday night, that the miners were working in the chromite mine located in the “Lotta Makawi” area of Zurmat district when they became trapped due to heavy snowfall and severe cold weather.
The rescue operation also received support from the air forces.
The statement noted that the successful operation was conducted with the collaboration of ground security forces in the Zurmat district and aerial support, and the rescued individuals were transported to the Paktia Regional Hospital for initial medical assistance.
Health sources at the regional hospital reported that the condition of the rescued miners is satisfactory.
Additionally, Sher Ali Jandullah, the police chief of Paktia province, visited the hospitalized miners to inquire about their health.
It is noteworthy that, as heavy snowfall and rainfall continue across 30 provinces in the country, both civilian and military forces have initiated relief operations for citizens.
