Over 50 cold storage facilities constructed in Daikundi

NILI: The Daikundi local officials have said that 55 cold storage facilities for preserving and storing onion products in the region, valued at over 46.5 million Afghanis (some 706,000 U.S. dollars), have been constructed in the province.
According to the provincial Directorate of Information and Culture of Daikundi, officials from the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock have confirmed the completion of these cold storage facilities.
The facilities were constructed with the financial support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in the districts of Nili, Pato, and Shahristan in Daikundi province.
Hashim Behzad, the publications officer of the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Directorate of Daikundi, stated that the project was implemented by the “AfghanAid,” organization.
He identified the purpose of constructing these cold storage facilities as “preserving and maintaining quality products, preventing onion waste, improving market conditions, and strengthening the economic status of farmers” in the province.
The implementation of the project is expected to play a key role in improving farmers’ economic conditions in the province. Building cold storage facilities for preserving agricultural products, including fruits and vegetables, is also considered a priority in government programs in Afghanistan.
