KABUL: Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the escalating clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan and their impact on civilians.
Speaking Friday night at UN headquarters, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said Guterres is calling for an immediate halt to the fighting between Kabul and Islamabad and urging both sides to resolve their differences through diplomacy.
Dujarric added that UN humanitarian partners are particularly worried about the consequences of the reciprocal attacks, especially in a refugee camp at the Torkham crossing.
He stressed that the United Nations is urging all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law.
The UN’s concerns come amid reports that recent Pakistani military strikes in parts of Afghanistan have resulted in civilian casualties.
