KABUL: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, warning that continued conflict will deepen human suffering, cause widespread destruction, and trigger severe economic consequences.
In a post on X, Guterres said the impact of the war extends beyond the region, affecting countries worldwide and increasing risks to global security and stability.
He urged the international community to act swiftly to find a peaceful solution and end the fighting.
The UN chief also called on the United States and Israel to halt the war, which he said has caused “immense human suffering and devastating economic consequences.”
