KABUL: Health officials in Iran have reported that as a result of celebrations marking the end of the year, particularly during “Chaharshanbe Suri,” 21 people have been killed and 6,914 others injured in the country.
ILNA, an Iranian news agency, quoted Babak Yektaparast, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, on Wednesday as saying, that over 1,700 individuals suffered burns, 258 had limbs amputated, and more than 1,800 others sustained eye injuries.
He added that West and East Azerbaijan provinces and the capital, Tehran, recorded the highest number of injuries.
Chaharshanbe Suri is a cultural tradition in Iran celebrated on the last Wednesday of the year.
