Phase three of Salang pass reconstruction: Kabul-North route to be closed

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the main route of the Salang pass will be closed to traffic due to the commencement of phase three of its reconstruction.

According to a statement from the ministry on Saturday, passenger vehicles, both small and large, will use alternative routes, while cargo vehicles will be allowed to travel on the main route in turns.

According to the statement, passenger vehicles, including 303, 404, and 580, buses, will operate continuously on the alternative route 24 hours a day.

Additionally, cargo vehicles will be permitted to travel on the main Salang Highway in turns—one night from north to south and the next night from south to north.

The Ministry of Public Works has requested patience from citizens while the reconstruction efforts are underway.

It is noteworthy that phases one and two of the Salang Highway have been substantially rebuilt under the ministry’s supervision over the past two years.
