Strengthening political relations between Kabul and Beijing, among issues discussed between Afghan, Chinese officials

KABUL: Zhao Chao, the Deputy Secretary of Xinjiang, China, during his visit to Kabul met with Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, the ministry said in a statement today.
In the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening political relations between Afghanistan and China, expanding cooperation based on mutual trust, and exploring economic, commercial, and transit opportunities with Xinjiang.
Mawlavi Muttaqi emphasized the importance of furthering cooperation in line with Afghanistan’s foreign policy principles with the People’s Republic of China.
The Chinese side praised Afghanistan’s security situation and its strategic position for regional connectivity.
They expressed readiness to assess projects and joint opportunities to enhance economic relations between Xinjiang and Afghanistan.
Xinjiang is one of China’s major autonomous regions, located in the northwest of the country.
