LASHKARGAH: A water reservoir dam worth 20 million Afghanis has been inaugurated in Helmand province, the governor’s press office said in a statement today.
According to the statement, the Galabeda water reservoir dam, located in the Washir district of Helmand, was built with the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The dam has 235 meters length, 12 meters height, and 65 meters width, said the statement, adding it features a spillway measuring 120 meters in length and 30 meters in width, playing a crucial role in water management in the Washir district.
Local officials stated that the construction of the dam took eight months to complete, providing storage capacity for 56,000 cubic meters of water.
Helmand, a province in the southern part of the country, has been affected by drought.
Engineers indicate that the construction of such dams can not only help manage drought but also facilitate irrigation for agriculture in the province.
