Ahead of U.S.-Russia leaders’ meeting, Kim and Putin hold talks

KABUL: As leaders of the U.S. and Russia prepare to meet in two days to discuss the Ukraine conflict, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin.

The Russian state-run TASS news agency, reported citing North Korean state media (KCNA), that Kim assured Putin his country’s full support for Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

During the phone call, Putin expressed gratitude for North Korea’s assistance and the presence of its soldiers in liberating the “Kursk” region from Ukrainian forces.

The reports indicate that the leaders praised the “deepening and development of cooperative relations in all areas according to the comprehensive and strategic cooperation treaty” and emphasized their commitment to further strengthening their collaboration.

This comes just days before the leaders from the White House and the Kremlin are set to meet in Alaska to deliberate on the fate of the Ukraine war.
