Cardiac Surgery and Hemodialysis ward inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital in Kabul

KABUL: In a ceremony attended by health officials, the cardiac surgery and hemodialysis departments were officially inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital in Kabul today.

Dr. Wahdat Alkozai, head of curative medicine at the Ministry of Public Health, stated that this opening marks the first time such facilities have been established in the country’s health sector.

The new ward includes 59 beds and two operating rooms, with plans to conduct four surgeries daily.

Mawlavi Noor Jalaal Jalaali, acting Minister of Public Health, mentioned that three successful pediatric heart surgeries have already been performed in this newly established department.

He added that hundreds of children with heart diseases are expected to receive treatment at this center throughout the year.

Hemodialysis is a treatment method that involves filtering the blood of patients with non-functioning kidneys and returning the purified blood to the body through a specialized machine.
