Around 800 people trapped under rubble from earthquake in Kunar

KABUL: The Kunar residents said that around 800 people have been trapped under rubble following last night’s earthquake.
A Radio Omid correspondent in eastern Afghanistan citing families of earthquake victims reported this morning, that three villages in the districts of “Nurgal and Suki,” particularly in the areas of “Mazar Dara and Diwagul,” have been completely destroyed, leaving residents trapped beneath the debris of their collapsed homes.
As of now, local officials have not confirmed or denied this figure due to ongoing rescue operations.
The earthquake struck while hundreds were asleep, causing roofs to collapse on them.
Among the victims are women, children, and adults. Local sources indicate that between 5 to 10 members from each family have been trapped in this devastating incident.
Currently, rescue teams from various sectors, particularly the Afghan National and Islamic Army, are working to save victims and transport the injured using helicopters.
Kunar province has suffered the most from the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred last night.
