Tehran governor announces beginning of 2nd phase of Afghan refugees expulsion

KABUL: Mohammad Sadiq Motamedian, the governor of Tehran, has announced that the second phase of expelling Afghan refugees will begin this week to address the issues related to illegal residents.

According to the ISNA news agency, he stated that no country accepts the presence of illegal residents.

Motamedian noted that so far, 1.4 million Afghan refugees have been expelled from Iran, with 450,000 of them coming from Tehran alone.

He mentioned that the expulsion of Afghan refugees has resulted in over 3,000 vacant classrooms in Iran, and rental prices have decreased by 30 to 35 percent.

Additionally, Iranian media reports have highlighted that the expulsion of Afghan refugees has led to a significant shortage of labor in various factories, negatively impacting their operations.
