KABUL: Head of the Afghan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA), Dr. Abul Bari Omar, speaking in a press conference on Wednesday said that Afghanistan has reached self-sufficiency by 15 percent in medicines production.
During the previous regime, 95% of the country’s medicines were imported from foreign countries, but now it has decreased by 80%, said Dr. Omar.
“The Authority is working on a special software with the capacity of storing 30, 000 quality medicines with its company’s name,” said Dr. Omar adding, that while purchasing, this will help the citizens to diagnose the quality of medicines.
In the past recent months, private medicine-producing companies by investing millions of US dollars started operations across the country.
