U.S. halts visa issuance for Afghan passport holders

KABUL: The U.S. Department of State in a statement on its X account this morning announced the suspension of visa issuance for individuals traveling to the United States on Afghan passports.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, reiterated the announcement, emphasizing that protecting the United States and its citizens is the government’s top priority.

The statement indicated that all necessary measures have been taken to safeguard national security and public safety in the U.S.

American media reports suggest that this decision follows the shooting of two National Guard members in a recent attack carried out by an Afghan citizen.

This incident occurred late last week near the White House in Washington, D.C.
