KABUL: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Sharafat Zaman Amarkhail, in a video message said today that a four-day polio vaccination campaign has been launched across 18 provinces in the country.
The campaign is set to run from February 2 to February 5, 2026 (13 to 16 Dalwa), and will cover approximately 7.3 million children under the age of five against the disease.
The vaccination campaign will take place in the provinces of Kabul, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Ghazni, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Balkh, Faryab, Kunduz, Herat, and Badghis.
He emphasized that in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, and Zabul, the campaign will begin one day later (on Tuesday) and will continue until Friday.
Dr. Amarkhail urged religious scholars, community leaders, and family members to cooperate fully with vaccinators to ensure the success of the polio vaccination campaign and to achieve the desired goal.
Afghanistan remains one of only two countries in the world currently reporting positive polio cases.
