KABUL: Security officials in Badakhshan province report that at least 12 people have died and 3 others have been injured as a result of a traffic accident in the area.
The Badakhshan Police command said in a statement today that the accident occurred today, in the Samdar area of Arghanjkhwah district, when a Flankoch-type vehicle veered off the road and rolled down a valley.
Badakhshan police attributed the cause of the accident to the poor condition of the road.
The victims include women, men, and children. The vehicle was traveling from Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan, towards Arghanjkhwah district.
Badakhshan is a mountainous and large province in the northeastern part of the country, with many of its 28 districts facing severely substandard roads, leading to such incidents from time to time.
