Health Minister meets UK Special Envoy; Britain pledges continued support

KABUL: Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan, held a virtual meeting with Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, according to a statement from the ministry on Saturday.
During the discussion, the two sides reviewed several issues, including the current state of healthcare services, strengthening and expanding the health system, improving the capacity of medical staff, the nature of specialization training programs, and the cooperation of international organizations with Afghanistan’s health sector.
Jalali expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom’s support for Afghanistan’s health sector and said that additional assistance and cooperation are still needed to expand essential health services.
According to the statement, the UK’s special envoy reaffirmed London’s commitment to continued support for Afghanistan’s healthcare system, emphasizing that the United Kingdom will maintain cooperation to strengthen, expand, and sustainably support the country’s health sector.
Efforts by the Afghan Ministry of Public Health and its partner organizations to expand healthcare services and improve their standards are ongoing.
