KABUL: The Afghanistan Prison Affairs Authority announced that, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, a total of 1,205 male and female inmates across the country have benefited from either amnesty or reduced sentences.
According to the authority, the decision was made under the directive of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate and following a thorough review of prisoner files by a designated committee in coordination with relevant institutions.
Sources indicated that in the prisons of Sar-e-Pul, Samangan, Ghor, Kunar, Parwan, Paktika, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Panjshir, and Laghman provinces, 550 prisoners were fully released, while 655 others had their remaining sentences reduced.
